It's been a thing in recent years for the "Awkward Family Photo" to be criticized. For the most part, gone are the days of the studio family portraits at Sears. These days, most people have photos done by a photographer like me: We shoot on location, we use natural light, etc. They end up looking more like a lifestyle shot than a cheesy smile with a backdrop.
However, it has also been a thing in recent years for the "Awkward Family Photo" to be re-created (as a joke, of course.) If you don't know what I'm talking about, visit the popular Awkward Family Photos site.
This is the second year in a row where my friend Katy wanted to hire me to shoot Awkward Christmas cards. Why? Because Katy is awkward. And they're funny. And silly. And different. I had a blast shooting them last year and I wasn't the least bit surprised when Katy called me to do them again this year with her roommates. (You can see some of last year's photos at the bottom)
It's always fun to see how when you try to be awkward you realize that you really just are.
